Sonar Sensor Access
« on: January 15, 2017, 05:42:17 AM »
Hey All,

I just started coding for Alpha 2, does anyone know how to access the proximity sensor information?

Also, I recently tried Neuron and it is great app!

Thanks,
Alan

Hi Alan,

Sorry I've not managed to work out how to read the 'pings' yet.  I had a quick look through the sdk doc's but couldn't see anything... Will have a look further when I proper wake up!.. lol

After quite a bit of digging, I cannot seem to find a way to access the Sonar Sensor.  As expected, I haven' received any emails back from ubtech on how to access the sonar information from their sdk.

Hi,

Not sure if this will help but I have just started playing with the Alpha2 software and was looking at the AlphaRobot2s application that lets you define your own actions. I noticed that there was an 'Event Listen' tab on the main editing window. If you click the 'Add Event' button you can attach to the 'Eventhandler Sonar' and can config when the sonar event fires. This allows you to attached an action to the sonar event. As this is day one for me with Alpha 2 I haven't had a chance to test this but I will try to soon.

I know it is not SDK access to the sonar data but it may be useful.

Great find!  I didn't even realize there was the ability to add events.

Did you get to try to run the robot with the sonar event configured to see if it would work?

Thanks,
Alan

Hi Alan,

I haven't had a chance to try it yet. My Alpha 2 only arrived today, so this evening has been familiarising myself with the software and a SDK documentation.

Thankfully, my robotics background means I am not at a standing start and the PC app for Alpha 2 bears some striking similarities with Nao's Choregraphe. Well, more than similarities really lol. Bits of it look like direct copies  ;) lol.

I will try to give it a go on my robot tomorrow night and let you know how it looks.

I create a simple action with the Sonar event and 100cm to cause Alpha to wave his hand.  I then loaded the action onto the Alpha2's action folder and ran the action from my phone.  Works as intended.

Mike, sorry, still haven't figured out the SDK functions yet.  I just tried what you were talking about with the Alpha 2 programming and was able to trigger an action when I flagged the Sonar sensor.  I attached the action that I created in my previous post (Alpha just waves an arm whenever he detects something in front of its sonar).
